The National HIV/AIDS Secretariat was established by an act of Parliament in 2002 and located in the Office of the President to coordinate a multi-sectoral effort to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and mitigate its impact in Sierra Leone.
The National HIV/AIDS Secretariat is committed to providing leadership in coordination of HIV/AIDS programs and activities of all stakeholders in Sierra Leone by developing, implementing and coordinating an effective strategic plan that addresses prevention, treatment, care and assures the preservation of human right.
The mission is translated into the following functional areas:

The Government of Sierra Leone has received a grant from the German Government through KfW to the tune of EUR 6 Million Euro to finance sexual reproductive health Programme for the period 2013 - 2017. The programme includes HIV prevention through social marketing of condoms and behaviour change communication measures as well as Impact Mitigation Fund (IMF) to support civil society organisations to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence (GBV) including Female Genital Mutilation.
