First Lady Madam Sia Koroma Delivering Keynote address

A campaign aimed at protecting the lives of mothers and babies, ‘Bon pikin we nor get HIV’ was  launched on 10th December 2012 by the First Lady of the republic of Sierra Leone Sia Nyama Koroma at the Lumley Government hospital in Freetown. The launching which has as its theme “My Right, Your Right, Our Rights: To give birth to a life without HIV” is being supported by UNAIDS, National HIV/AIDS Secretariat (NAS), and implemented by Voice of Women (VOW) in collaboration with Office of the First Lady (OFL).

The National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) has received a grant of forty-nine million United States Dollars from the Global Fund to boost the Secretariat’s programmes in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Sierra Leone. This was disclosed to journalists by the Director of the National AIDS Secretariat, Dr. Brima Kargbo at a press conference held at the Conference Room of the Secretariat on Monday 26th November 2012.

President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has said in a nationwide broadcast that HIV and AIDS would continue to be one of the key issues in his Government's development agenda in the Agenda for Prosperity. The President gave this assurance in his nationwide broadcast message as President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of the National HIV/AIDS Commission to commemorate World AIDS Day on Saturday 1st December 2012.

On the 28th August 2012, the newly appointed UNAIDS Country Coordinator to Sierra Leone Dr. Job Sagbohan paid a courtesy call to Her Excellency, The First Lady of The Republic of Sierra Leone Madam Sia Nyama Koroma at her residence at Hill Station. He was accompanied and introduced by Dr. Brima Kargbo, the Director   of The National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) and by Mr. Bockari Samba, the UNAIDS Programme Officer.
